Q. What are good ways to find sources for my research paper on the negative effects of birth control?

I am specifically focusing on just two types of birth control, Yaz and Nuvaring. Thus I would like to find more information on the negative effects when using these birth control methods.

If you are a first- or second-year student, I suggest that you start with ProQuest (in the Quick Links menu on the library's homepage, http://www.usciences.edu/library/).  If you are a third-year or beyond student, you will want to start with PubMed (also in the Quick Links menu).

In either case, you need to know the generic names of the drugs so that you can search using those names.  Often contraceptives are combinations of drugs.  If that is the case with these products, you will want to search the names of each of the drugs with AND in between them.  Try searching just one contraceptive product at a time.

Also, most professional articles use the term 'adverse effects' instead of 'negative effects'.

Let us know if you have any further questions about your research.
