Q. I cannot access any pages on the usciences.edu website, including the library website, when I am on WiFi on my Windows laptop.
This often happens when users have previously connected to another WiFi network at a business, such as a hotel or an airport. Some WiFi networks modify the User's network settings without their awareness. Fortunately, this is usually a quick fix. Here's what we have seen work in the past on Windows computers:
- First, you will want to locate your various Network Connections, which is a window that shows adapters with names such as Wireless Network, Local Area Connection and/or Bluetooth Network Connection.
- Right click on any of these adapters and choose Properties.
- On the new window which opens, select the entry called Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), then click the Properties button, located toward the bottom of the window.
- On the window which opens, (which is called Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties), make sure that the button for Obtain DNS server address automatically is selected, and not the Use the following DNS server addresses button (you may see IP addresses entered into these fields prior to completing this step; these will be removed).
- Click OK to close all windows.
If these steps do not resolve the problem immediately, try restarting your computer and then checking access once more. If you are still unable to access www.usciences.edu website, please contact the IT Helpdesk at http://helpdesk.usciences.edu or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
