I can't access the library's website from Blackboard.
What you describe is caused by security settings in your browser interacting with Blackboard. Since Fall of 2013, for added security our Blackboard site will not display content that isn't delivered via HTTPS.
The behavior you'll see varies by browser but, regardless, there should be a way to easily allow the Library site to load. No matter what browser you are using, there is NO cause for concern in allowing Library pages to load via these steps (we can't speak for other websites):
- Internet Explorer should display a prompt, usually near the bottom of the screen. IE 11, for example, shows a bar that says "Only secure content is displayed" and includes a button labelled "Show all content". Clicking the button loads our site.
- Google Chrome is less obvious. Look for a shield to appear in the menu bar at the far right of the web address (next to the star which lets you add bookmarks). Clicking this shield will display the following message. Clicking the "Load unsafe script" link to load our site.
- Firefox doesn't tend to block the entire library website, rather, the browser tends to make links on our site unresponsive. Like Chrome, Firefox also displays a shield in the menu bar when content is blocked, but their shield appears on the left near the back arrow. Clicking this shield will display this message; you must select "Disable Protection on this Page" from the dropdown to enable unresponsive links.
Please note that you may need to repeat these steps during subsequent visits.
But, if you'd rather not deal with these steps, there is one other way around the issue: Simply access the library website directly, outside of Blackboard, at www.usciences.edu/library. This will avoid the issue completely!
Have you found steps to run in other browsers? Let us know, and we'll add them to this post.
