Ask a Librarian

Useful Tip: As you type, you may see some suggested answers. If you don't see anything helpful, click 'Ask Us' and then fill out the question form on the next page to email your question to a librarian.

I am a 3rd-year PA student, and I need to do a systematic review.

The subject of my review is pharmacological treatment options for a specific headache condition. I know that I need to gather random controlled trials from PubMed, but I have not done a systematic review before. My professor suggested that I contact the library for help.

I would like to get started in the next week or two. My project is due at the end of spring.

This is Chris Wieman, the librarian who you spoke with yesterday afternoon.  Below you will find a link to the Q&A page that I mentioned on the phone.  In this page, my colleague discusses the basics of a systematic review, and also points to a 2011  article that discusses the process in greater detail.  I encourage you to read the Q&A page and the article.

I hope this helps you get started on this project!  Let us know if you would like to set up an appointment with a librarian to work on a search strategy for your systematic review.
